Siren Speed Queens take on the Marketing Industry Triathlon

— Posted Tuesday 6th July 2010 by Stacey Stockwell under Team siren

Last Friday saw Katie, Becks and I teaming up as the Siren Speed Queens to take on the Marketing Industry Triathlon.

Now, we can’t say we were exactly champing at the bit at the prospect of swimming 400m in a lake, cycling 10km, and then running 2.5km – even if we were doing it as a relay team and therefore only tackling one leg each. Our intense training regime had consisted of Katie trying on her wetsuit, Becks watching as Neal put together her bike and me, well, I dusted off my running trainers!

We arrived nervous at Dorney Lake and were immediately surrounded by lycra-clad seasoned athletes limbering up, and the Olympic distance competitors were already in the water! With just enough time to get really anxious, our race approached swiftly and before we knew it we were cheering on Katie as she accompanied the swans and fish in the lake for her swim. Next thing we knew it was change over time, Katie had gallantly completed her leg of the race and Becks was off speeding around the lake on her bike. Finally it was my turn and I was off on my run. And then it was all over, just as quickly as it had started!

A strange feeling of triumph filled us all as we drifted off to sleep in the car back home. Same time next year girls?
